The Yankees have made their first offseason move by choosing to keep Anthony Rizzo in their ranks with a new $40million multi-year contract. The franchise are now looking to sign Aaron Judge who is still a free agent.
Anthony Rizzo Re-Signs With The Yankees
The NY Yankees have re-signed 33-year-old Rizzo with a $40million multi-year contract. The new contract is a two-year $34 million contract with a $17 million club option in the third year. It also includes a $6 million buyout.
Following the decision to sign, Rizzo has chosen to skip the second year of the two-year, $32 million contract he initially signed in the spring. Rizzo has been in spectacular form in his first full season with the Yankees after scoring 32 home runs.
Rizzo also previously turned down the team’s $19.65 million offer. The re-signing of Rizzo is part of the Yankees’ attempt to pair Rizzo and Judge together. The duo played a major role in contributing in their lineup last season.
With the new contract, Rizzo will now receive a raise and another year in his contract with the Yankees. The Astros were also reportedly interested in signing Rizzo but the Yankees moved quickly to sign him.
The Yankees initially acquired Rizzo at the 2021 trade deadline and the managing general partner of Yankees, Hal Steinbrenner, stated that club wanted to keep him after the signing.
