The former 2-time world heavyweight champion is looking for redemption, as the last time he won a match was way back in December 2020, against Kubrat Pulev.

Anthony Joshua next fight opponent confirmed

Anthony Joshua has confirmed that his next fight opponent will be American boxer Jermaine Franklin. The British confirmed the news about his comeback fight on his Instagram page. Joshua’s also tweeted a poster for the fight with the caption, which reads, “A New Dawn 🌅.”

Fight date and venue

Joshua confirmed that the fight against Jermaine will take place on April 1, 2023 at the O2 Arena in London.

The main card is expected to start at 7 p.m. GMT / 2 p.m. ET, with main event ringwalks at 10 p.m. GMT / 7 p.m. ET.

Tickets go on sale at 12 p.m. GMT on February 9, 2023 via AXS.

OTT streaming service DAZN will be the official distributor and broadcaster for the Anthony Joshua vs Jermaine Franklin fight. The upcoming fight is AJ’s first fight in his new 5-year partnership with the streaming giant. According to the official DAZN site, Joshua’s comeback fight will come under the £9.99/month DAZN saver subscription. Fans will however need to download the DAZN app in order to avail the subscription.

Anthony Joshua’s opponent Jermaine Franklin is currently ranked #29 in the world and #5 in the U.S.A. Franklin last opponent was British boxer Dillian Whyte whom he lost against via a majority decision. Whyte has also previously went up against AJ back in December 2015, a fight, which he lost.

A tough comeback fight

Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn however, insists that the upcoming fight against Franklin is anything but an easy fight.

Hearn stated:

It’s a really tough fight with loads of pressure to come back because if AJ doesn’t win this fight, then we’ve got a major problem. I believe you’ll see a statement from a guy who is very dangerous, very motivated to become a three-time heavyweight world champion.”

If Hearn is right, then Anthony Joshua is eager for a fight against the American boxer and prove his critics wrong. Anthony Joshua, who recently changed his trailer, stated:

I am looking forward to stepping back into the ring on April 1st at The O2 London. Mentally and physically I feel ready. I want to put on a show and impress my coach as he has high standards.”
