Eddie Hearn officially announced that Anthony Joshua is set to face UFC legend Francis Ngannou in an upcoming bout. Ngannou made waves in the boxing world last October when he surprised everyone by knocking down Tyson Fury in his professional debut. Although Fury secured a victory on points through a split decision, Ngannou’s performance gained significant attention, leading to this anticipated matchup with Joshua.

After securing victories three times in 2023 to revive his career following setbacks against Oleksandr Usyk, Joshua is ready to face Ngannou. The upcoming ten-round bout will happen in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on March 9. Joshua’s ultimate objective is to reclaim the heavyweight title, having lost it to Usyk in September 2021 and falling short in their subsequent meeting.

Initially, this date was reserved for the Joshua vs. Deontay Wilder match. Joshua and Wilder had initially agreed to a showdown on December 23 in Saudi Arabia. However, Joshua emerged victorious against Otto Wallin, while Wilder suffered a comprehensive defeat to Parker, prompting a change in plans. Instead of facing Wilder, Joshua will now step into the ring against Ngannou.

Despite Ngannou’s impressive performance against Fury, experts believe that Joshua will emerge victorious. In the October face-off, the ex-UFC heavyweight champion displayed remarkable skills against Fury. Ngannou impressively sent the ‘Gypsy King’ to the mat in the third round, suggesting a significant upset after ten rounds of boxing. While one judge scored the fight 95-94 in favor of Ngannou, the decision was ultimately overturned by the two other officials.

On February 17, Fury and Usyk, who currently possess the prominent heavyweight titles, will engage in an undisputed showdown in Saudi Arabia. Joshua, if successful against Ngannou, is likely to target the winner as he seeks a third opportunity to become a world champion. In response to the upcoming challenge, Joshua humorously took to Instagram, posting a meme from the gaming classic GTA San Andreas featuring the main character CJ.

They controversially awarded a split decision victory to Fury with scorecards of 96-93 and 95-94.
