Prediction
In the second round of the 2022 Korea Open, the fourth-seeded Lin Zhu will compete against the Indian Ankita Raina.
World No. 70 Lin Zhu is only one position away from the highest singles ranking of her career. Given her performance this season, it is likely that she will set a new personal record before the year is up.
After defeating Su-Jeong Jang 6-3, 6-4 in the opening round of the Korea Open, the 28-year-old is currently 33-20. Despite not doing well in the WTA tournaments so far in 2022, she has a rather wide draw in Seoul, so that could change. She has a good chance of winning this 250 event, where she will compete against the winner of the Tatjana Maria-Kimberly Birrell match.
A few other events saw Lin advance to the late rounds, but the majority of her victories have come on the ITF circuit, where she has won three titles. The previous time Zhu competed, Sachia Vickery defeated her in the qualifying rounds of the US Open.
Ankita Raina is settling a valuable season on the WTA Tour. With a current record of 21-19, she holds the 329th-best position in the world. She defeated Maddison Inglis in three sets in Seoul, winning 4-6, 7-5, and 6-1 in the process. After beginning as a qualifier, the 29-year-old Indian advanced past Riya Bhatia and Valentini Grammatikopoulou to enter the main draw.
Ankita’s season has been mostly uneventful, with an ITF final in Aldershot and a few late-round appearances in Bendigo, Chiang Rai, and Nottingham serving as her main highlights. She last competed at the Chennai Open, when Tatjana Maria defeated her with a score of 0-6, 1-6. Given her recent performance, it is difficult to imagine Zhu losing to Raina. She is the clear favourite.
