Anita Pointer was an American singer-songwriter, famously known as the founding member of the vocal group “The Pointer Sisters.”
Pointer was the fourth of six children born to Sarah Elizabeth and Reverend Elton Pointer in Oakland, California, in the United States. Pointer’s parents were from Arkansas, despite the fact that she was born in California.
Her mother gave her permission to live with her grandparents while she was in Arkansas so she could finish fifth grade at McRae Elementary, seventh grade at McRae Jr. High, and tenth grade at McRae High School. She played alto sax in the McRae High School band while living in Prescott. Pointer left her position as a secretary in 1969 to establish The Pointer Sisters with her younger sisters Bonnie and June.

Anita, Bonnie Pointer, June Pointer, and June’s older sister Ruth joined the Pointer Sisters in 1972, making them a quartet. The original trio of three are now all dead.
While a member of the group, Anita received three Grammy Awards, including one for Jump (For My Love), before leaving in 2015. The top 10 hits by The Pointer Sisters were recorded in the United States.
According to Neal, The Pointer Sisters were also the first contemporary act to perform in the San Francisco Opera House and the first African American group to appear on the Grand Ole Opry.

According to Sky News, Anita Pointer’s publicist Roger Neal revealed that the actress had passed away on New Year’s Eve from cancer at the age of 74. Her relatives were surrounding her.
Anita Pointer was married twice and had one child, a daughter named Jada Rashawn Pointer who she shared Jada with her first husband, David Harper.
Jada was born on April 9, 1966, and tragically died of Cancer in June 2003, aged 37 and Anita went on to raise her granddaughter, Roxie McKain Pointer. Anita’s net worth stood at $5 million.
In a statement, the family said: “Although we are terribly grieved by Anita’s passing, we are comforted in knowing she is now at peace with her daughter Jada and her sisters June & Bonnie. She was the one who, for such a long time, kept us all close and associated. Each one of us will carry on her affection for our family.”
