Recently, reports emerged online indicating that a recent crackdown on anime piracy has taken place after the government took the necessary action to control the copyright infringement.

As the government intervened, numerous popular sites, such as AnimeSuge, Aniwave, Anix, among many others, vanished almost overnight.

As per the media reports, more than 10 popular websites, that streamed pirated anime content have been taken down by the government intervention.

Though, some sites are now completely inaccessible, while there are many that reportedly display a message indicating that they may begin operating by the same organization sometimes later.

However, as of now, there is no information available whether these sites will start functioning again and from when. Let us inform you, all these affected sites used the domain of .to, which reportedly belongs to the Tonga Kingdom.

For the curious, the matter came to light after an X account which goes by the name @MangaMoguraRE took to the platform and revealed that popular anime sites like โ€œAnimeSuge, AnimeWave (9Anime) are suddenly shutting down.โ€

In 2024, the efforts to combat piracy have been persistent in the manga industry with popular Japanese manga publisher Shueisha, a member of content overseas distribution association, being at the forefront.

Let us remind you, last week, a popular manga site, Webtoon, filed a subpoena request against more than 150 manga piracy websites, which reportedly receive more than 100m monthly visits.

Meanwhile, many manga enthusiasts are opposing the decision of taking down the anime piracy sites as they argue that now how they are supposed to catch up with their favorite anime.

One such anime fan took to X and penned, โ€œaniwav going down is my fucking 9/11 what the hell.โ€ Another one added, โ€œThis is sad af. This was the best anime site ever. I donโ€™t know if Iโ€™ll ever get over it.โ€
