Head To Head: 3-2

Murray has a 3-2 advantage over Bautista Agut in their past five meetings but the Spaniard won their previous encounter at the Qatar Open in 2022 in straight sets.

Prediction

Andy Murray, a three-time Grand Slam champion, will face world No. 22 Roberto Bautista Agut in the second round of the Swiss Indoors on Thursday.

Laslo Djere squared off against Bautista Agut in the first round. He lost a break early in the first set and fell behind 2-1 before swiftly levelling the score and taking the lead again. The Spanish player broke his opponent’s serve to take the set after the two players had each other’s serves held until the 10th game. Bautista Agut dominated the second set, winning five straight games to win the set 6-4, 6-1, and the match to snap his three-match losing streak.

On the other hand, Andy Murray was initially scheduled to face Sebastian Korda in the first round of the tournament, but the American withdrew due to an injury. Roman Safiullin was his opponent in place of that. After the Russian took a break to go up 3-1 in the first set, the ex-World No. 1 was able to tie the match in the ensuing game. As a result of the pair’s subsequent successful serve defence, a tie-break was required, which Safiullin won. Murray needed to save all five break points in the third game of the second set in order to keep his serve. In the sixth game, the British player broke the serve to take a 4-2 lead. He didn’t need to go to a deciding set because he had a comfortable lead.

Safiullin quickly took a 4-1 lead and looked to be winning the crucial set, but Murray had other plans. The three-time Major champion prevailed 6-7(5), 6-3, 6-4 by winning the next five games.

Murray was working at full pace near the end, smacking goals off both wings with ease. Throughout the entire game, he made 30 winners compared to 19 unforced errors. At their season-opening matchup in Qatar, Bautista Agut handily overcame the former World No. 1 player. The Spanish player dropped just one game while winning in straight sets.

Bautista Agut’s success was mostly attributed to his serve return because Murray was only able to win 33% of the points on his first serve back then. The Spaniard still presents a threat despite his recent setbacks. Murray seems to have a good chance to perform well and exact revenge for his earlier loss.
