Prediction
Andy Murray and James Duckworth are set to have a clash against each other for the third time tomorrow in the first round of the Wimbledon Championships 2022.
The Briton will be feeling positive at home court and the player knows what he is on grass. The environment and the fans, everything will be positive and favourable for the British professional especially while he will be playing on his preferred surface.
This season, the former World No. 1 has won 16 of 25 games and advanced to two finals. The first one occurred at the Sydney International, where Murray advanced to the final after defeating Viktor Durasovic, Nikoloz Basilashvili, David Goffin, and Reilly Opelka. In the title match, Aslan Karatsev defeated him in two sets.
On the other hand, on the ATP Tour this year, Duckworth is winless in all of his main event contests. In the Australian Open first-round match against Adrian Mannarino, the Australian came close to winning but ultimately fell short in five sets. At the Lyon Open, he also forced Francisco Cerundolo into three sets. He didn’t make it into the main draw of the Queen’s Club Championships during the grass-court season after losing in the Libema Open’s first round. He qualified for the Rothesay International main draw, but Lorenzo Sonego defeated him despite winning the opening set.
Given his remarkable run to the BOSS Open championship in Stuttgart, Murray will go into the match as the favourite to win. The Scotsman has shown considerable promise this year and stands a solid chance of succeeding at Wimbledon. Murray is an excellent server, possesses strong groundstrokes, and moves well on grass. Given that Duckworth has only triumphed in five of his career’s seventeen games played on grass, the 35-year-skill old’s set will undoubtedly present challenges for him.
The pick of the match is Murray and is expected to win in straight sets. The only concern about the Briton is his health as he battled hip issues in his final matchup with Matteo Berrettini and Stuttgart, but he showed a stunning run at the event.
