Over the years, Ni Kuang had carved a path for himself by putting his thoughts and imagination into words in the world of entertainment. He had made his own name not just in Hong Kong but worldwide.

How did Ni Kuang die?

According to the local media of Hong Kong, Ni Kuang died on Jul 3, 2022, Sunday at the age of 87. The cause of his death is reported to be Skin Cancer by local media houses.

Up until now, Kuang had worked on nearly 300 screenplays. Most of his screenplays are penned down in the martial art genre and many others for Shaw Brothers Studio with his co-writer Chang Chen.

He has also written the scripts for blockbuster movies like ‘The 36th Chamber of Shaolin’ and ‘One Armed Swordsman’. Apart from writing he has also played a small role in Bruce Lee’s movies such as ‘The Big Boss and Fist of Fury’.

His most famous novel was, New Adventures of Wesley. It’s a series of detective stories where aliens and extraterrestrial creatures often appear on earth. In the 1960s, this series was initially reported in the Ming Pao newspaper and later it became the inspiration for many movies and stories.

Early Life of Ni Kuang

Ni Kuang aka Yiming was born on May, 30, 1935 in Shanghai, China. In the early 1950s, Kuang worked as a public security official under the government of China’s Communist Party in Mongolia. His main task here was to write the death sentences.

In the year 1957, he went against authoritarian rule of Hong Kong and escaped from there. In a short span, he established himself as a novelist and by the 1960s he was a popular screenwriter.

Throughout Kuang’s life, he was fiercely anti-Communist so he never went back to his country.  In an interview he had said that individual freedom and freedom of expression is paramount. He had said, “After departing the mainland, I am free without any restrictions and able to talk and think freely”.

He had left Hong Kong in 1972 with his wife Li Guozhen to the U.S. but they returned back to Hong Kong in 1976 because his wife couldn’t adjust to life in the States. Kuang was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2012 at the Hong Kong Film Festival.

Kuang had two kids, a girl and a boy. He had named their son as Jon Nieh and their daughter as NJ Sui. Kuang’s son also works in the entertainment industry. His net worth stood at $2 million.
