Who Is Amartya Chakraborty?
Amartya Chakraborty, a three-time national para-swimmer champion, is 19 years old. Salkia, in the Howrah district, is where he was born. He is the only child of his parents.
The prospective para swimmer had disfigured fingers and was afflicted with several illnesses, including artery vein malfunction (AVM) and scoliosis, all of which contributed to his body’s asymmetry. He was put on temporary disability and began making waves at a young age, capturing national titles at the sub-junior and junior levels in 2015, 2016 and 2017.
When he was set to compete in his first international tournament, the Asian Youth Para Games in Dubai in December 2017 but he was disqualified as a para-swimmer after objections from various governments, and the international governing organisation IPC eventually pronounced him “ineligible.”
His Death Cause And Reason
Amartya Chakraborty died of sudden cardiorespiratory arrest at the GB Pant Hospital in New Delhi on Wednesday morning after a protracted struggle with life and the system. He was just 19 years old when he lost his life.
Amitosh accompanied Amartya to GB Pant Hospital in New Delhi in October 2021 because he couldn’t afford to care for his kid at private hospitals in Chennai or AIIMS, New Delhi. Amartya underwent surgery in December of last year and returned home, but his issues reappeared four months later, forcing him to return to the New Delhi hospital.
Amitosh alleged,
We wrote to PCI, the sports ministry and many others but nobody came for help.
He added,
He could have been rescued if we had received some financial aid.
He went on to say,
I’ve two years of service left now and have spent all my expenses including the PPF on his treatment. We don’t even have money to fly him back to Kolkata.
