However, after suffering an injury in early October, his condition remains uncertain.

Alphonso Davies Suffers Skull Bruise In Der Klassiker

According to Bayern Munich, Alphonso Davies suffered a “cranial bruise” during the Der Klassiker against Borussia Dortmund on October 8.

The club further announced that Davies suffered the injury in a clash just before halftime with Jude Bellingham. During the match, Davies was “caught in the face by the boot” of the Dortmund midfielder.

As a result of the tackle, Davies was substituted off at halftime, with Josip Stanisic coming on to replace him. In the later stages of the game, Bayern blew a 2-0 lead in the match as Youssoufa Moukoko scored in the 74th minute.

Later, Kingsley Coman was sent off in the 90th minute, following which Anthony Modeste scored a 95th-minute equalizer.

After departing the field, officials transported Davies to the hospital, after suspecting a concussion. However, luckily, the latest diagnosis suggests that Davies escaped without a traumatic brain injury.

Bayern Dismayed With Referee

Bayern Munich were dismayed that the referee gave Bellingham only a yellow card for the incident, while he sent off Kingsley Coman later in the match.

After the match, Bayern CEO posted on Twitter:

Where was [referee] Dennis Aytekin’s empathy shown on the yellow [to Bellingham] when he showed a red card to Kingsley Coman?

Dortmund playmaker Jude Bellingham later apologized to Davies after the match. He told German media in the mixed zone:

It wasn’t intentional. I didn’t want to hurt him and I wish him a speedy recovery!

Will Alphonso Davies Recover In Time for The 2022 World Cup?

As of now, Bayern Munich did not give a return date for Davies’ injury. The club only stated that the Canadian “is feeling good in the circumstances” but was unable to train on Sunday.

However, unless Davies suffered a concussion together with the bruise, he will likely be back in a week or two. The Bayern injury release also did not indicate any more serious damage. However, if Davies did indeed suffer a concussion, his return becomes more uncertain.

Alphonso Davies Injury History

Last season Davies missed a significant amount of after suffering a heart condition following a COVID-19 infection.

As a result, the Canadian international missed a significant chunk of his club season and Canada’s World Cup qualifiers.

Canada won four and lost two games in the qualifiers when Davies was sidelined. These included a home victory over the United States and 1-0 losses at home to both Panama and Costa Rica.

Later in 2020, Davies missed 10 club matches after suffering a torn ankle ligament. Besides these injuries, the Bayern starter has remained relatively healthy throughout his young career.
