Know all details about Imane Khelif, whose alleged leaked medical report went viral on Twitter/X claiming she was a biological male

In a surprising development, a leaked medical report has raised significant questions about the gender identity of Algerian boxer Imane Khelif, who recently won gold in womenโ€™s boxing at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Alleged leaked medical report of boxer Imane Khelif confirms she is a biological male by gender

French journalist Djaffar Ait Aoudia obtained a document indicating that Khelif has XY chromosomes and internal testicles, suggesting a condition known as 5-alpha reductase deficiency. According to the MRI findings, Khelif lacks a uterus and has a micro p*nis.

The medical reports allegedly show Imane has XY chromosomes, male testosterone levels and t*sticles.

Imane Khelif, born on May 2, 1999, clinched the gold medal in the women’s 66 kg (welterweight) boxing event at the 2024 Summer Olympics. Her victory over Italy’s Angela Carini at the Games was met with resounding support, yet was followed by a surge of misinformation on social media regarding her gender and eligibility. These false claims, suggesting Khelif is male, were likely fueled by her disqualification from the 2023 Women’s World Boxing Championships.

How will the report’s findings impact Imane Khelif’s career?

The report, prepared in June 2023 by experts from Parisโ€™s Kremlin-Bicรชtre Hospital and Algiersโ€™ Mohamed Lamine Debaghine Hospital, outlines Khelif’s biological characteristics, including the absence of a uterus and the presence of internal testicles. An MRI further revealed a microp*nis, adding complexity to the findings.

This is not entirely new information, as similar details about Khelifโ€™s XY chromosomes led to her being banned by the International Boxing Association (IBA) before the World Championship gold medal bout in New Delhi in 2023.

Despite Khelifโ€™s failed gender test, her conditionโ€”known as DSD (Differences of Sex Development)โ€”complicates a straightforward classification of biological sex. DSD can result in atypical chromosomal and hormone profiles, such as elevated testosterone levels, while Khelif was born and socially recognized as female.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) stripped the IBA of its recognition due to governance and financial issues. Under IOCโ€™s anti-discrimination policy, implemented since the Tokyo Olympics, Khelif remains eligible to compete.
