Alexander Zverev who won the Cincinnati Open 2021 has insisted that Novak Djokovic remains the man to beat at the US Open
The last couple of months have been a golden period for Alexander Zverev. The 24 year old is in the form of his life, a player who has torched his way to a string of laurels.
After winning the gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics, Zverev went onto get his hands around the glistening trophy at the Cincinatti Open 2021. The Western & Southern Open winner will now be looking to continue his exceptional stretch of form when it canters into the forthcoming US Open.
Alexander Zverev Remains Wary Of Novak Djokovic Ahead Of The US Open 2021
Speaking ensuing his triumph at the Cincinnati Open, Zverev though talked about how he believes Novak Djokovic continues to remain the name to beat at the hard court tournament. Despite getting the better of Djovkovic at the Olympics as he defeated the Serbian in the semi-final, Zverev insisted that the world number one was amongst the outright favourties to walk away with the Grand Slam.
“I do think that he’s (Novak Djokovic) still the favourite. I do think he’s going to be playing incredible tennis there. He’s going to be fresh, and I think other guys are in very good form,” Zverev said.
Zverev had endured heartbreak at the US Open last year after he was defeated by Dominic Thiem in an intriguing five set thriller. However, the German has been on a renaissance since, winning two ATP Masters 1000 titles this year, one at the Madrid Open and another last week in Cincinnati to see his ATP ranking climb to world number four.
Novak meanwhile will be pushing for the calendar Grand Slam at the US Open with a win seeing him wrap up all the four coveted grand slams this year.
