During the year 2000, Alain hosted Speed’s Victory By Design, in which he drove vintage racing cars and discussed their history. In year 2012, de Cadenet hosted Renaissance Man for the Velocity Channel (now called the Motor Trend network), covering cars, motorcycles, the Rolls-Royce Merlin engine, and racing in Monaco.
Alain De Cadenet made his reputation by driving his own sports prototypes, taking on the works teams, and occasionally beating them. In 1972, he persuaded Duckhams Oil to sponsor a car he commissioned Gordon Murray for designing for the Le Mans 24-Hour race. De Cadenet completed 12th overall.
In 1976 he finished 3rd overall at Le Mans. In 1980, with the co-driver Desire Wilson, he achieved the two rounds of the World Sportscar Championship Monza of 1000 kilometers and Silverstone 6-hour events. This was a great achievement in an era of increasing professionalism when it was very much difficult for privateers to defeat the larger, better-funded teams that had factory support.
Cadenet was having a passion for collecting vintage and classic raced cars, he owned numerous cars. Apart from cars he also owned motorbikes, and aircraft and collected George V stamps. His full car collection can be found here.
