Numerous social media rumours claim that record 14-time UCL winners Real Madrid have invited Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al-Nassr to play a friendly in the Spanish capital. The Santiago Bernabeu stadium will open for business with the match between the two teams.

Journalist Ali Al-Harbi, who works in Saudi Arabia, stated earlier in December of last year that the Spanish Football Federation is probably going to hold a “mini-tournament” in Spain between Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Al-Nassr.  The journalist from Saudi Arabia wrote on X, “There is an idea from the Spanish Football Federation to extend an invitation to the Saudi Al-Nasr Club to come to Spain and play matches with Real Madrid and Barcelona “as a mini-tournament” in early 2024 AD “to fulfil the yearning of the supporters there.”

While the match date hasn’t been officially confirmed, the stadium could open in mid 2024. There are doubts as to the completion deadlines though, with the last completion date of December 2023 not being met. A date in January 2025 is being touted for the fixture.

The German studio GMP Architecten and the Spanish designers L35 and Ribas & Ribas designed the stadium, which the Spanish giants started renovating in 2019. The opening ceremony was originally scheduled for December last year, but Real Madrid moved it to the end of the campaign. According to The Athletic, the rebuilt Santiago Bernabeu stadium is now expected to open officially between the end of May and the beginning of June. This period will likely include performances by worldwide performers Taylor Swift and Duki on May 31 and June 8, respectively.

Santiago Bernabeu’s retractable pitch has six subterranean levels to accommodate large-scale events; the stadium can accommodate up to 85,000 spectators now that renovations have increased its capacity from approximately 81,000. In 2025, Santiago Bernabeu is anticipated to host additional athletic events, such as an NFL game.
