Although Saudi Arabia has played football for decades, their national team is still not at the consistent top level.
However, their domestic league, the Saudi Pro League seems to be making waves and one of the teams responsible are Al Ahli. Al Ahli are currently making some big moves in the 2023 summer transfer window and could pose a serious title challenge threat in the upcoming 2023/24 season.

Al Ahli current owners
Al Ahli are currently under new ownership as they are one of the four Saudi clubs that are now under the control of the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund (PIF). This is the same government-backed PIF that recently acquired Premier League side Newcastle United. As things stand, PIF currently owns 75% of the club while the Al Ahli non-profit organization owns the other 25%.

As compared to other PIF-owned clubs under the Saudi Pro League, Al Ahli are a club that is more on the quiet side. However, the club have secured two major signings this summer window. Former Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy and Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino have both signed Al Ahli for the upcoming season. Al Ahli secured Mendy for a sum of ยฃ16m. Meanwhile, Brazilian forward Roberto Firmino joined Al Ahli from left Liverpool after eight seasons despite links to Barcelona and Juventus.
