2023 Meltwater Champions Chess Tour: Leg 1 – Airthings Masters Pragg vs. Sam Sevian final schedule, latest results, & next opponent for Magnus Carlsen
Magnus Carlsen, the reigning World Champion, and Hikaru Nakamura, the five-time Speed Chess Champion, squared off in the third day of the Champions Chess Tour Airthings Masters 2023. After four draws, Carlsen won the Armageddon tiebreaker by successfully defending with Black. Wesley So ousted GM Alexey Sarana from the Losers Bracket, and Indian prodigy Arjun Erigaisi eliminated his fellow countryman Gukesh. Later, Hikaru Nakamura defeated Wesley So in the Losers Bracket final to qualify for the grand final that will see him play the rematch against Magnus Carlsen.
Fabiano Caruana won the Winners Bracket semi-final match in Division II against Nodirbek Yakubboev to qualify for the championship match. In the Division II Winners Bracket Final, Caruana will compete against Yu Yangyi, who defeated GM Alexander Predke. Meanwhile, Praggnanandhaa was sent to the Losers Bracket in Division III by Sam Sevian. The Indian prodigy, however, prevailed over Oleksandr Bortnyk to seek retribution and in the Division III Grand Final, Praggnanandhaa will play against Sam Sevian.
Meltwater Champions Chess Tour: Leg 1 – Airthings Masters 2023 prize money pool distribution
At the 2023 Airthings Masters, there will be a total prize pool of $235,000, with Division-1 receiving $112,500, which will comprise a total of eight top competitors. There will be sixteen people in Division 2 in total, and the total prize money is $71,500. Meanwhile, the 32-player Division-3 will have a prize pool of $51,000.
