In total, sixteen participants competed in the round-robin stage of the online event, with eight moving on to the knockout stage.

Airthings Masters 2022 Chess Finals Winner And Result

The event started from February 19 and ran till February 26, with action starting at 18.00 CET every day. The tournament took place in online mode due to travel restrictions.

Day-8 featured the last four round of final matches. After a nail-biting series of matches, Carlsen won 2.5-0.5 by over first three games. Overall, Carlsen won the 8-match final with a score of 4.5-2.5.

Airthings Masters Chess 2022 Day 7 Finals Results And Score

The Airthings Masters final turned out to be a repeat of the recent world championship match. Carlsen and Nepo faced off for the first time following Carlsen’s victory in the World Championship match in Dubai.


Unsurprisingly, all four matches on Day 7 resulted in a tie to leave both players tied at 2-2. Carlsen claimed, he was frustrated no to take the lead after opening round of matches, as he was on the verge of winning three of the four games.

However, the world champion won the second 4-game mini-match with a score of 2.5-0.5 after drawing the opening set on Friday. With this win, Magnus Carlsen emerged as the winner at Airthings Masters and continued his streak of winning finals against Ian Nepomniachtchi.
