The 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, which begins on January 13, will soon bring spectators, athletes, and international media to Ivory Coast.
AFCON past all time winners list and 2024 winner and runner up prize money
Ivory Coast will host the Afcon from January 13 to February 11 and Qatar will host the Asian Cup from January 12 to February 10. The Premier League clubs will be without first-team regulars for several weeks, even though the events fall during winter breaks in several European leagues.
The 24 teams are divided into six groups of four teams, with the hosts, Equatorial Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, and Nigeria; three-time champions; in Group A. Following the first game, there will be a group stage that lasts until January 24 and include at least two games every day.
On the first weekend of competition, record seven-time winners Egypt will play Mozambique in Group B, while on Monday, January 15, holders Senegal will start their title defence against The Gambia in Group C. 2024 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) prize money
At its 45th Ordinary General Assembly (“OGA”) in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire, the African football governing body revealed the increase in prize money.
As CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe fulfilled the organization’s pledge to invest more funds in CAF competitions and in making African football self-sustaining, the overall competition expenses on prize money and tournaments for the year grew by 26% to $78.9 million.
Senegal was awarded $5 million for winning AFCON 2022, while Egypt was awarded approximately $2.75 million for placing second.
