2023 Africa Cup of Nations schedule, date, venue, draw, & qualified teams

Morocco, the African team that made the deepest run at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, will be closely watched in Group F. Notably, the Atlas Lions have not reached the AFCON final since 2004 and secured the title only once in 1976. Meanwhile, the defending champions Senegal are in Group C, with key players like Sadio Mané, Kalidou Koulibaly, Nicolas Jackson, and Idrissa Gueye aiming to retain the trophy in Dakar.

Hosts Côte d’Ivoire, placed in a challenging Group A, will face another strong contender, Nigeria. Unsurprisingly, the 1992 and 2015 champions will rely on the skills of Borussia Dortmund striker Sebastien Haller, who has recovered from testicular cancer. Nigeria, participating in their 20th AFCON tournament, will be led by Napoli striker Victor Osimhen in pursuit of the title they last claimed in 2013.

Ghana, under the management of Irish former English Premier League manager Chris Hughton, boasts a strong Black Stars side featuring Premier League representatives Andre Ayew, Thomas Partey, and Mohamed Kudus. In Group B, seven-time champions Egypt, who last won the title in 2019, are paired with Ghana. The team, featuring Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah and Arsenal’s Mohamed Elneny, emphasizes the dominance of domestic-based players.
