The 2023 Asian Cup group stage is already over, but there was still something to play for going into their final matches because 16 of the 24 participating countries qualified for the knockout stages.

The four best third-place finishers joined the top two finishers from each of the six groups, who all automatically progressed to the round of 16. The hosts and reigning champions Qatar and Tajikistan, who are competing in their first AFC Asian Cup, have secured a spot in the RO16 from Group A.
Following a 3-3 draw in the fifteenth minute of extra time on Thursday, Korea emerged victorious in their Asian Cup group alongside Malaysia. Bahrain, on the other hand, defeated Jordan 1-0 to claim the top spot.
Iraq finished top with maximum points when it defeated Vietnam 3-2 in the 102nd minute. Japan defeated Indonesia 3-1 in its final Asian Cup Group D match on Wednesday to ensure a top-two finish and qualify for the last 16.
Meanwhile, Palestine, with their first-ever victory in the competition, they defeated Hong Kong 3-0, which allowed them to advance as one of the top four third-place teams into the round of 16.
From Group E, no side has advanced, and the outcome will be determined on the last matchday. Group F’s sole team with a reserved spot in the RO16 is Saudi Arabia.
Only eight countries will be leaving early from the event, which has 24 teams in total. With every team departing Qatar with pride, there will be others that wish they had done something different after lying in order to appear kind.
