The release date for AEW first console video game, which was announced in November 2020, has now been confirmed
The “tentative internal release date” has been established for September for quite some time, according to Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select. Fightful originally reported that the game had yet to secure a publisher, but this appears to have changed.
AEW Video Game 2022 Update On Game Release Date As Publisher Is Selected
Yuke’s is working on the game, having previously worked on WWE game consoles for nearly two decades. The director of the iconic title WWF No Mercy, Hideyuki “Geta” Iwashita, will also contribute with the game set to release in fall this year, as early as September.
In February, Kenny Omega chatted with the Wrestling Newsletter and provided an update on the game’s progress. At the time, he said:
“It is coming along though, and for us, at least for me, there’s a, there’s a large emphasis on just the wrestling aspect of the game. We want the wrestling too, and it’s tough to get that balance, but we want it to feel like, how a match would flow, within a video game. So you know the matches will go, probably go, probably in general, go a little quicker.
They feel everything, and that it’s fun. But at the same time, if you want to be competitive about it, you know there is that there too.”
Why could the AEW video game be compared to WWE 2K22?
He also addressed the inevitable comparisons the game would face to WWE 2K22. WWE’s most recent instalment with 2K Games, which was released last month.
It should be reiterated that the game’s release in September is not guaranteed. This is merely a goal. However, if things go well, an announcement might be made soon, albeit a lot could happen from now until September.
The PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, PlayStation 4 & Xbox One are all slated to receive AEW’s console game. It comes after AEW’s first two mobile games, Elite GM & Casino” Double Or Nothing, which were released in 2020.
