Accident victim dies in NEIGRIHMS hospital in Shillong, family claims due to no staff being present
Friends and family of the dead claimed that because it was the weekend and there were no doctors at the hospital, the guy died from his wounds. The NEIGRIHMS authorities immediately called a Special Operation Team of police, who stabilised the situation.
What caused the patient’s death?
The deceased was hurt when his scooter collided with an SUV while he was riding it. The accident occurred at around 11 am, but the patient wasn’t brought in until 12.20 pm, according to Dr S. Vijay Singh, HOD of Dentistry at NEIGHRIMS. He also noted that all protocols were followed, however, the patient passed away from his injuries at around 2.30 pm.
“We basically attempted every strategy we could think of to treat the patient, but by 2.30 the patient had passed away. The patient was stable, his blood pressure was approximately 94, so we decided to perform an ultrasound because we had noticed some injuries there and that he likely had a fracture in his leg, allowing us to better understand what had actually occurred. However, the patient abruptly passed out following the ultrasound. The crowd became quite agitated at that point,” according to the doctor.
An official has addressed the victim’s family’s claim
In response to the question of how many doctors were in the hospital, the doctor stated that, in addition to the experts who are on call, there were up to 7 JRDs and 3 CMO. According to Dr Singh, the medical staff arrived quickly after learning of the issue.
Dr Singh responded to the victim’s family’s claims that there were no senior doctors present at the emergency unit by saying, “It’s not like that. Dr Mohim, our CMO, and the JRs were present as well. We had requested the presence of all the senior physicians so that when the inquiry was complete, we would be aware of what to do. Regrettably, the patient passed away right away after the investigation was over.”
Furthermore, the doctor said that an autopsy would be performed the following morning.
