Prior to the discovery of her body in the Yamuna River near the Geeta Colony flyover, authorities went on a six-day search operation.

Tripura teen Sneha Debnath commits suicide

Sneha Debnath was a student at Delhi University who recently committed suicide after initially going missing on the morning of July 7, 2025. She had told her mother that she was going to drop a friend at Sarai Rohilla Railway Station following which she did not return. Her family eventually grew concerned and her phone remained switched off.

Authorities have since filed a missing person’s FIR at the Mehrauli Police Station and authorities traced her last known location to Delhi’s Signature Bridge. Upon further investigation, a cab driver confirmed dropping her off there. Following a request from Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha, the Delhi Police, along with the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), launched an extensive search.

After an intense search and investigation, authorities managed to find Sneha’s body in the Yamuna River near the Geeta Colony flyover. The incident has seemingly shocked her family, friends, and community, prompting an outpouring of grief and questions.

Sneha Debnath reportedly left behind a handwritten note stating her decision to take her own life by jumping off the bridge. In the note, she also stated how she had sent troubling messages to close friends following her decision to take her own life. According to the police and her friends, Sneha had been mentally and emotionally distressed for several months.

Amidst the tragic news, a University of Buffalo (UB) student named Aaditya Verma, who is currently pursuing an MS in Artificial Intelligence sparked outrage with an alleged inappropriate comment. Verma allegedly posted a demeaning remark about Sneha regarding her looks and her nature of death, prompting widespread criticism. One user directly addressed UB in a viral tweet, saying:

Following the backlash, calls for disciplinary action and a formal investigation have intensified. As of now, the university has not yet issued any official response apart from replying to mails sent by social media users calling out Aditya’s alleged vile abuse claiming the comment didn’t align with their policies but they wouldn’t be able to reveal the impending action if any taken on the Indian student.

While Aaditya has since gone onto deactivate his LinkedIn profile in the aftermath of his Instagram comment going viral, he had claimed that the screenshot was fake and doctored and being circulated as part of a cyberbullying campaign to malign him. However, according to social media users, he has allegedly gone onto threaten people on Reddit to take down the posts by making a string of different profiles.

Aaditya who is currently based in Buffalo, New York, has also allegedly changed his Instagram ID on a bevy of occasions since along with setting his profile to private. However, as of now the authenticity of his comment on Sneha Debnath of Tripura is yet to be ascertained with it not known officially confirmed if he was indeed behind the comment on Instagram or not.

Aaditya is an Indian student at the University of Buffalo, SUNY studying MS Artificial Intelligence and is a Computer Science and Math enthusiast as per his now deleted LinkedIn profile.
