Early Life of Nijel Amos
Nijel Amos belongs to a small village Marobela village in the Eastern part of Botswana. He went to Nyamambisi Primary School in Merobela, Shangano Community Junior Secondary School(2007-2009) in Nishakashongwe, Botswana.
Running Career of Nijel Amos
Amos took his first participation at the 2011 African Junior Athletics Championship in the 800 metres event. Amos ran with a record time of 1:47.28. He further kept on improving his record, during the 2011 World Youth Athletics Championship Amos finished fifth in the 800 metres event.
Amos also improved his National Senior Record to 1:43.11 in 2012 while competing in 800 metres race at Mannheim. He became world champion at the 2012 World Junior Athletics Championship with a new championship record of 1:43.79.
At the London Olympics 2012, he won a silver medal making it the first-ever medal for his country Botswana at the Olympics.
The year 2013, was full of injury-filled year for Amos, he returned on track in 2014 with his full form where he set a meet record with a timing of 1:43.63 at the Prefontaine Classic. He also won a gold medal at the 2014 Commonwealth Games with a record of 1:45.18. At Rio Olympic 2016, Amos competed in 800 metres and 4*400 relay events but unfortunately could not qualify for the semi-finals.
At the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Amos competed in the 800 metres race finishing first in his heat. In the semi-finals, he collided with Isaiah Jewett resulting in both to disqualify.
