The Spaniard CB is said to have been in awe of Ben White and his capabilities during his Newport County days as Arsenal push hard for a transfer
Despite getting Gabriel Magalhaes on board along with William Saliba, it was clear that Arsenal needed defensive reinforcements if they were to seriously remerge as a top 6 Premier League outfit.
With William Saliba being shunned by Mikel Arteta as things turned ugly between the duo, Arsenal were left heavily relying on Gabriel and Rob Holding in the CB docket last season. And while the two performed reasonably well, their performances were far from consistent or noteworthy.
And with Saliba unlikely to get a look into the team’s setup with him failing to feature even once since moving to the club based out of London, Arsenal scoured elsewhere as it indulges in an upheaval of its squad. Brighton’s Ben White has caught Arteta’s fancy with the Spaniard extremely keen to have the player at his disposal.
Ben White On The Cusp Of Arsenal Transfer
After seeing their initial bid knocked out of the park by Brighton, Arsenal have now upped the ante. The club has launched a staggering 50 million pound offer for the Englishman, a fees which should be enough to take White to Arsenal.
While Arsenal supporters are divided over the impending transfer, Sergio Ramos is more than convinced about the player’s ability. As per Director of Football at Leeds United Victor Orta, Ramos had spoken highly about White during White’s days at Newport County.
Sergio Ramos Lauds Ben White
White who plied his wares for Newport County during the 2017-18 season had ended up moving to Leeds United on loan for the 2019-20 season. Orta who had crafted that move has now gone onto reveal what Ramos had told him about White.
“I remember in the first moment Sergio Ramos said ‘who is this kid? Playing in the line of Newport’. And was really impressed,” Orta said.
White who had finished 11th with Newport Country in League Two established himself as a mainstay of Brighton’s backline last season.
