Newly introduced sporting events that will make their debut in Commonwealth Games 2022, know the list of the new sports
Earlier the Commonwealth Games Federation had announced that Birmingham 2022 will be the largest ever female and parasport programme in the history of the competition.
It will be the first time in history that a multi-sport event will feature more women’s than men’s medals event.

Following are the newly introduced sporting events in CWG 2022
1. Women’s T20I Cricket:
Cricket will return to the Commonwealth Games nearly after 24 years. Not only T20 cricket will mark its debut in the CWG 2022, but it will also be the first time when women’s cricket will make its first appearance in the competition.
The last time when cricket was included in the CWG dates back to the 1998 Kuala Lampur Commonwealth Games. It was a 50-over men contest where South Africa won the gold medal. There are a total of 8 teams that have qualified for the event, further these teams are divided into two groups with 4 teams in both groups. The eight nations that have qualified for the event are- Australia, Barbados, India, Pakistan, England, New Zealand, South Africa and Sri Lanka. All the matches will be played at the historic Edgbaston Cricket Ground.
2. Para Table Tennis
It was announced in August 2019 that Para Table tennis will be included as one of the sports for the Birmingham Commonwealth Games 2022.
A total of 32 players with 16 of each gender can qualify to participate in the games. The para table tennis will be held at NEC Hall 3 along with the Table Tennis.
Qualification Criteria
• Five places per event is determined by the ITTF Paralympic Table Tennis Rankings List
• Another place per event is determined by the aforementioned rankings directly
• The last two places in each event are determined by CGF/ITTF Bipartite Invitations.
3. Wheelchair Basketball 3*3
The Wheelchair Basketball 3*3 will mark its debut in CWG 2022, the event will take place at the Smithfield site.
The International Wheelchair Basketball Federation(IWBF) and Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) announced that a total of six teams will take part in the games. The competition will be for both men and women.
The six men’s teams are England, South Africa, Northern Ireland, Australia, Malaysia and Canada.
The six women’s teams are England, South Africa, Scotland, Kenya, Canada and Australia.
