As they foolishly positioned themselves too close to the action on the cobblestones to photograph riders passing by at great speed, spectators were struck by the TotalEnergies star, as seen in video provided to Twitter.

On the third of 11 cobbled stages on the road from Lille to Arenberg, the fan was thrown to the ground and Oss crashed from his bike as well.

Amazingly, Oss was able to get back up at the end of the stage and cross the line. His team learned he had fractured a bone in his neck when he underwent scans, so he withdrew from the Tour de France and will now be out for “a few weeks.”

On Twitter, TotalEnergies stated: “Additional investigations indicated a cervical vertebra fracture necessitating a few weeks of immobilisation.

Daniel Oss must so withdraw from the Tour de France. Daniel, we all wish you a speedy recovery. After yesterday’s chaotic day, Michael Gogl and Jack Haig were also forced to leave the Tour.

However, Roglic of Jumbo-Visma is still competing despite dislocating his shoulder in a Stage 5 collision brought on by a safety bale that landed on the road.

On the side of the road, he sewed himself up and put his shoulder back in place using the seat of a fan.

At the conclusion of the day, Roglic stated: “I then personally inserted my shoulder back into the socket. I sat in the audience because I couldn’t do that while driving. There, it works.”
