Cricket will mark its return to the competition after 24 years of gap in Edgbaston, know the cricket ground T20 records
The last time when cricket was included in the Commonwealth Games date back to the 1998 Kuala Lampur Commonwealth Games. Men’s ODI cricket was introduced to the event. Birmingham Commonwealth Games 2022 will host the first-ever T20I cricket event in the competition. It will also be the first time when Women’s Cricket is included in the competition.The Birmingham Commonwealth Games 2022 will begin on 28 July and will last till 8 August 2022.
Edgbaston Cricket Ground T20 Records, Dimensions And Capacity With Stadium Set To Host CWG 2022 Matches
Venue
Edgbaston cricket ground has been chosen as the venue for all the cricket games in the competition. Southampton’s Edgbaston will host all the 16 T20I cricket matches throughout the CWG 2022 Birmingham event.
The historic Edgbaston cricket ground has witnessed some of the greatest cricket matches in the past. The 2013’s ICC Champions Trophy Final between England and India where India grabbed the record five-run victory over England was also held at this stadium. The Edgbaston Cricket Stadium was established in 1882.
The total capacity of the stadium is 25,000. The first-ever cricket match played on this ground was between England and Australia back in 1902. It is home to Warwickshire County Cricket Club and its T20 team Birmingham Bears. The historic Edgbaston has hosted more T20 Finals than any other cricket stadium in the world. After Lord’s cricket ground, Edgbaston became only the first England ground to host a major one-day international tournament final which was ICC Champions Trophy Final in 2013.

Highest Total: Birmingham Bears have scored a total of 242/2 against Derbyshire back in 2015 T20 blast is the highest ever total on this ground. On an international level, England has scored the highest team total of 221/ 5 against Australia in 2018.
Lowest Total: The record for the lowest ever total in Edgbaston ground is also registered by Birmingham Bears. They only managed to put 63 on the board against Nottinghamshire during the 2021 T20 Blast season. Australia’s total of 144/10 against Pakistan is the lowest total in the ground at an international level.
Most Runs: England’s legendary batsman Ian Bell has scored the most runs at Edgbaston Ground. He has scored 1,116 runs in 41 matches at the venue. Meanwhile, in T20Is, England’s current T20I captain Jos Buttler holds the record for most runs scored at the ground. He has scored 103 runs in three matches.
Best bowling figures: Gloucestershire’s Tom Smith’s brilliant spell of 5/16 in three overs is the best ever bowling spell on this venue. At the international level, former Pakistan’s off-spinner Saeed Ajmal’s spell of 3/26 in 3.4 overs against Australia is the best on this ground.
Most Wickets: Warwickshire Bears off-spinner Jeetan Patel has managed to take a total of 73 wickets in 63 matches which is the most in this venue. At the international level, Former Pakistan pace bowler Mohammad Amir is the highest wicket-taker at this venue. He has taken a total of six wickets in his two T20I at Edgbaston.
