Liverpool put their pre-season players through a metabolic test, which evaluates lactic acid levels while they run an increasing distance. For those of us whose readings are excessively high are eliminated as the exam progresses.
And as he entered his 21st campaign in the Premier League, Milner was once again the final man remaining. As per the Liverpool Echo, he has cleared the exam each year he has been with the team, earning this his eighth victory.
Joe Gomez may have been the last player to catch Milner, but somehow he was left for dead by a guy 11 years his older.
Milner finished the penultimate lap of the test before Gomez, according to a video recorded to Liverpool’s Twitter handle.
Milner was not battling against the amazingly Jordan Henderson or Mohamed Salah, as Liverpool’s international players have yet to resume to practice.
Milner agreed to a one-year agreement with Liverpool last month, with his previous contract scheduled to terminate this summer.
The dynamic midfielder has already attracted parallels to Cristiano Ronaldo for maintaining top health fitness and is a teetotaler. While the player might not play an integral part in matches anymore for the club, he continues to remain a crucial part of the modus operandi of Klopp owing to his consummate professionalism and mentality.
Paul Webster, a former City physiotherapist, told Focus earlier this year: “I saw [Milner] against Chelsea, and he was arguably one of the healthiest players on the field.
“He appears to be youthful and fit, with just 8% fat mass or maybe something ludicrous.
“He reminds me of Ronaldo.” I’ve never interacted with Cristiano, but I understand others who have, and I will have the same vibe.”
