Tarun Majumdar was a well-known Indian filmmaker who was known for his work in Bengali cinema. He has been in the news because he died recently.
On January 8, 1931, he was born in Bogra (now in Bangladesh), which at the time belonged to the Bengal Presidency of British India. His father, Birendranath Majumdar, was a freedom fighter.
He attended Scottish Church College, which is affiliated with the University of Calcutta.
Tarun Majumdar married Sandhya Roy, a fellow Bengali actress, but they subsequently got divorced. There is no information about his children or if he even had any.

His Career
He started his career as a filmmaker with his directorial debut alongside Sachin Mukherji and Dilip Mukherji in the 1959 Bengali film “Chaowa Pawa.” He went by the stage name Yatrik.
For the Bengali movie “Kancher Swarga,” released in 1962, Tarun Majumdar won his first National Award. He has received a lot of positive reviews for his directing work, which includes the films “Palatak” (1963), “Nimantran” (1971), “Sansar Simante” (1975), and “Ganadevata” (1978).
In recognition of “Nimantran,” he won a National Award, a BFJA Award, and a Filmfare Award. He received both a Filmfare Award and a National Award for “Ganadevata” (1979).

At the age of 91, Tarun Majumdar passed away from a heart attack in a hospital in Kolkata on July 4, 2022. Prior to his passing, he had heart, kidney, and chest infections.
Majumder donated his dead body to the SSKM Hospital’s Anatomy Department in order to advance medical education.
