Ronnie O’Sullivan carried on from winning his record-equaling seventh global title in Sheffield in May by producing a magnificent pot on the pink in the Championship League. Following his 18-13 victory against Judd Trump, which tied him for the most victories at the 1990 Crucible, O’Sullivan made his competitive comeback with a lopsided 3-0 victory over world No. 99 Farkh Ajaib in his Group 1 opening at Leicester’s Morningside Arena.

The winner of each match, which lasts up to four frames, advances to the round of 32. On Monday, though, O’Sullivan only required three frames to score three points in under 45 minutes. The world number one had breaks of 67, 54, and 65 while displaying no signs of rust. In one pot in the first frame, he banged a pink to a middle bag at a quick clip before rolling in a challenging red to a centre pocket with ease.

Later on Monday, he continued his strong play with 3-1 victories over Alfie Burden and Alexander Ursenbacher, topping the group with breaks of 56, 58, and 121 while the Swiss player rolled in a 105 in the second frame. With two 3-1 victories over Burden and Ajaib, Ursenbacher came in second.
