The Maharashtra speaker elections saw Rahul win with a resounding 164 votes. BJP candidate named, Rahul Narvekar is the son-in-law of Ramraje Naik-Nimbalkar, a legislator from the NCP and chairman and speaker of the Maharashtra legislative council.

Bharatiya Janata Party MLA Rahul Narvekar on Friday filed his nomination as the party candidate for the election to the post of Maharashtra assembly as being speaker.
The speaker’s post has been lying vacant since Congress leader Mr.Nana Patole resigned from the post last year, 2021. Deputy speaker Mr. Narhari Zirwal has been the acting speaker. Narvekar is a sitting BJP MLA from the city Mumbai’s Colaba constituency. He has been associated with the Shiv Sena and the Nationalist Congress Party in the past years.
Rahul Narvekar Professional Career, And Family
Rahul Narvekar was born and raised in the Colaba area of South Mumbai. His brother Makarand is a corporation from the district Colaba. Narvekar is also the son-in-law of senior NCP leader Mr. Ramraje Naik-Nimbalkar, who is a well-known legislator from the NCP and chairman and speaker of the state Maharashtra legislative council. He was born to Suresh Narvekar on 11 February 1977 and is aged 45 years.
In addition to his father-in-law, Narvekar’s brother Makarand is also in politics and is a corporator from Colaba and is a Hindu by religion. Exact details of his educational qualification are not known.
Narvekar is a first-time legislator from Mumbai’s Colaba Assembly constituency and prior to joining BJP, he has been associated with Shiv Sena and NCP.
He was also the spokesperson of the Youth Wing of the Shiv Sena in the past years. He quit the party and joined the NCP in year 2014. Narvekar claimed that the inaccessibility of party top brass prompted him to quit the Shiv Sena.
Rahul Narvekar contested the year 2014 Lok Sabha elections from the Maval, losing to Shrirang Appa Barne of the Shiv Sena. Narvekar then joined the BJP in year 2019 Maharashtra assembly polls from Colaba. He achieved the assembly elections from the city of Colaba, defeating the Congress’ Ashok Jagtap.
