2022 Candidates Chess Tournament Round 12 Results, Latest Standings, And Nepomniachtchi’s Massive Lead

The 2022 Candidates Tournament will be decided with a draw on Sunday, according to GM Ian Nepomniachtchi, who extended his lead to two points. Today, GM Ding Liren, his closest rival, lost to GM Teimour Radjabov after drawing in just seven minutes with GM Hikaru Nakamura. Due to having to settle for a draw with GM Richard Rapport, GM Fabiano Caruana is still in fourth place and is now partnered with Radjabov. GM Jan-Krzysztof Duda came within one point of defeating GM Alireza Firouzja, but the match ended in a tie.

Nepomniachtchi currently enjoys a two-point advantage over Ding as a result of Ding’s unexpected defeat on Friday, ensuring him at least a tie for first place. His winning score after 14 rounds in four of the previous five Candidates competitions was 8.5 points, which he attained in just 12 rounds. As he gets to play the white pieces once more on Sunday, the Russian grandmaster is likely to win the competition with another draw. Rapport, one of the game’s more unpredictable players, is his opponent.
