ATP Eastbourne International 2022 Prize Money And Points Breakdown, Men’s Singles And Doubles Final Winner, Score And Results
Taylor Fritz vs Maxime Cressy
In the Eastbourne International final on Saturday, Taylor Fritz defeated fellow American Maxime Cressy with a score of 6-2 6-7 (4-7) 7-6 (7-4) to win his third ATP Tour championship and second overall.
The world number 24 was rejoicing in the final tournament before Wimbledon, three years after Fritz’s debut tour victory over fellow countryman Sam Querrey at the same event.
To get to this point, Cressy, a Paris native, had defeated the British hopefuls Dan Evans, Cameron Norrie, and Jack Draper in quick succession. However, Fritz simply had too much.
The winner of the Indian Wells Masters had not dropped a break all week and continued that streak into the decider, although he was challenged all the way.
After an opening in, that did not seem plausible. However, neither player faced another break point, necessitating two tie-breaks to decide the winner.
Cressy won the first set, forcing a decider after a pair of strong forehands finally broke down Fritz. However, Fritz needed treatment in between sets and was clearly exhausted by the match’s closing moments.
Not that the outcome should have come as any surprise, but the most recent in a string of Fritz lobs proved beyond Cressy, raising the champion’s lifetime record in decisive tie-breaks to an astounding 20-3.
Nikola Mektic/Mate Pavic vs Luke Saville/Matwe Middelkoop
To win back-to-back championships at the British grass court competition, Croatia’s Nikola Mektic and Mate Pavic defeated Matwe Middelkoop and Luke Saville with a score of 6-4 6-2 in the Eastbourne doubles final. Mektic and Pavic, the top-seeded team, started the final with an early break in the third game to take a 2-1 lead.
