Let’s have a look at the top favourites in men’s singles at Wimbledon 2022 along with the predictions
The third Grand Slam starts this month on June 27 and the championships will run until July 10. The qualifiers have already started on June 20. Let us have a review on the top-heavy favourites at the championships.
Wimbledon 2022 Top 5 Men’s Singles Favourites, Predictions, Players List, Betting Odds
1- Novak Djokovic
The top-ranked player in the world, Novak Djokovic, is the clear favourite in the men’s singles division. Djokovic’s 2022 tennis season got off to a rough start as he withdrew from the year’s opening Grand Slam and was unable to defend his Australian Open championship. Due to a contentious medical exemption and vaccination status, the No. 3 ATP player’s visa was twice cancelled, resulting in his deportation from Australia.
He was unable to participate in some competitions due to immunisation requirements. He started the season at the Dubai Tennis Championships, where he lost in the first round, and then lost in the first round of the Monte Carlo Masters. The 34-year-old then advanced to his first final at home, where he was defeated by Andrey. He reached the quarterfinals of the French Open but was defeated by eventual winner Rafael Nadal.
Nadal could have been the favourite but his only concern is the foot problem he has been suffering and the Serbian could take advantage of it being physically better.
2- Rafael Nadal
Everyone is aware that the Spaniard originally owned the 2022 season. The 35-year-old began the year in Melbourne with a trophy before winning the historic 21st Grand Slam championship followed by stunning and record-extending 22nd and 14th in Paris at the Roland Garros.
After winning the Mexican Open, he lost to Taylor Fritz in the BNP Paribas Open final.
Nadal’s performance against Denis Shapovalov in the last 16 of the French Open was marred by his obvious limping and discomfort. During the Indian Wells Masters, the Spanish professional also expressed frustration with his foot. After a record-extending visitor at his favourite tournament at French Open, the player from Spain is predicted to bounce back and maintain his outstanding form.
3- Carlos Alcaraz
Can Carlos Alcaraz win his first Grand Slam on grass?
From qualifier to top favourite at the Roland Garros tournament. The 19-year-old has come a long way in his tennis journey within 12 months. The No. 6 ATP player could have been on top based on his form and physical health but the reason he is third is due to his lack of experience at the Grand Slam compared to the other two Nadal and Djokovic.
Alcaraz has already bagged four ATP Masters titles this season beating quality players. He has also defeated Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic back to back on clay followed by his win over No. 3 Alexander Zverev to clinch the Madrid Open title. The emerging star of Spain is ready to have his first Grand Slam.
4- Matteo Berrettini
Following his second straight victory at the cinch Championships, Matteo Berrettini enters Wimbledon. In the Queen’s Club championship match, the world No. 10 defeated Filip Krajinovic with a score of 7-5, 6-4.
The only player in Open Era history to triumph in both of his opening games at the Queen’s Club is an Italian. The only other grass-court competition this season, the Stuttgart Open, was also won by Berrettini in early June, giving him a 2-for-2 record.
That is very encouraging for the 26-year-old, who has an incredible 20-1 record on his preferred surface since the beginning of 2021. His lone defeat came in the Wimbledon Final of 2021, where Djokovic defeated him in four sets.
5- Hubert Hurkacz
Hubert Hurkacz is someone to keep an eye on. The Polish professional eliminated King of Grass Roger Federer last year in the quarterfinals.
The No. 10 player in the world, Hubert Hurkacz, may cause some damage in his fourth Wimbledon. The Halle Open, a forerunner grass-court competition, is where the 25-year-old just won his opening match of the year.
In only his third appearance at The Championship, where he was defeated by Berrettini in four sets, he also made it to the 2021 Wimbledon semifinals. He prefers hard surfaces and will pray that England experiences drought-like weather for the next two weeks to assure the quickest conditions.
