Lightyear Movie Spoilers: Who Is Zurg Explained
Lightyear is a spin-off from 2022, and the Buzz we know and love is a toy based on Andy’s favourite movie. This film. This means Zurg is the antagonist of this sci-fi adventure, and we finally get to see him unmasked.
Before we get into important plot points, who is Zurg in Lightyear?
In Lightyear, Who Is Zurg?
Zurg in Lightyear turns out to be an older version of Buzz himself. A Buzz from another timeline with a worrisome agenda. Did you expect that one?
The unmasking was undoubtedly shocking, but it begs the question, “Why would Buzz be his own greatest enemy?” Allow us to elaborate.
Much of the opening act of the film revolves around Buzz’s attempt to flee the planet Tikana Prime. When he returns, he finds that many years have gone although he hasn’t aged. On his final effort, he returns having passed a hyperspace exam. However, 22 years have passed, and robots governed by the enigmatic Zurg have overrun the Earth.
As Buzz and others work to rescue the people, the titular Space Ranger comes face to face with Zurg.
The World Of Toy Story 2 Will Never Is The Same Again.
When Buzz removes his helmet, he misidentifies Zurg as his father – a homage to the “I am your father” comedy from Toy Story 2 – but the elder Buzz reveals that he hails from an alternate reality in which he successfully passed the hyperspace test.
After that, he journeyed far into the future and found sophisticated technology, adopting Zurg’s identity by donning the mecha suit shown in combat. This other Buzz aimed to go to this Buzz and gather hyperspace fuel to return in time and ensure they never arrived on Tikana Prime.
Our Buzz is opposed since it implies that everyone born since the landing, including Izzy Hawthorne, will no longer exist and their lives will be irreversibly altered without their awareness.
As a result, a profound rivalry develops, with future Buzz dismissing current Buzz’s humanity.
‘He’s On A Mission.’
Looking back on recent interviews, it’s evident that Zurg was hiding something significant.
In an interview with Screenrant, director Angus MacLane and producer Galyn Susman were questioned about the villain.
“I’ve been advised we can’t discuss Zurg,” Angus laughed.
“Not yet,” Galyn added. “You don’t want us to ruin it for you, do you?” Sure, he’s upset about something. He has a goal. He’s on a mission.”
Lightyear is now only available in cinemas.
