Dimitri Van den Bergh won his first World Series victory at the Viaplay Nordic Darts Masters on Saturday, defeating Gary Anderson 11-5 in the final in Copenhagen.

The tournament took place on June 10-11, 2022, at the Forum Copenhagen in Copenhagen, Denmark. The field consisted of 16 players, with a prize fund of £60,000 and a winner taking home £20,000.

Van den Bergh won the £20,000 top prize in only his ninth World Series event, collecting his second senior televised title win in the process. The Belgian defeated Anderson in the 2020 World Matchplay to win his first TV ranking title, and he repeated the feat on Danish territory to deny Anderson a seventh World Series victory. The world number nine took advantage of Anderson’s poor start to build an almost insurmountable 8-0 lead, and despite Anderson’s best efforts, he was unable to accomplish an incredible comeback.
On Friday, the two-time World Youth Champion opened the competition with a rout of Danish teenager Benjamin Drue Reus, kicking off a weekend of darting dominance. Van den Bergh averaged 99 in a 10-5 quarter-final victory over Gerwyn Price, before putting an end to Michael Smith’s pursuit for a third World Series title with an 11-4 semi-final victory.
In the last eight, Anderson averaged 103 and had nine 180s in a 10-4 thrashing of World Champion Peter Wright, before battling through James Wade in a gruelling semi-final. Anderson was unable to retain his perfect record after winning his previous six World Series finals, but there were plenty of positives for the two-time World Champion.
