The Hero FIH Hockey5s Lausanne 2022 event is the first official senior World Hockey5s competition organized by the International Ice Hockey Federation, and it built on the success of previous Hockey5s events around the world, including the Youth Olympic Games events in Nanjing 2014 and Buenos Aires 2018.
The women’s teams from India, South Africa, Uruguay, Poland, and Switzerland competed in a round robin tournament, with the top two teams Uruguay and Switzerland advancing to the final.

The women’s final got off to a fast start, with the home team scoring first in front of a raucous audience who clearly believed in their squad. Uruguay, on the other hand, exhibited no nervousness and went about their job calmly, and within 5 minutes after falling behind, they had not only equalized, but also scored a second and third goal to take a comfortable two-goal lead into halftime. Manuela Vilar, the captain, scored twice, while Teresa Viana, the top goal scorer and best player overall, scored the third.
