The winner of the Epsom Derby will collect a whopping £850,000 GBP in prize money.
This will be shared between the owner(s) and jockey, while the horse gets a well-deserved rubdown and a spot in history.
The race was won by Desert Crown, ridden by Richard Kingscote. Sir Michael Stoute, who also trained Shergar, has won the Derby for the sixth time.
The entire budget for the field is £1.5 million, up from £1.125 million in 2021, when it was decreased owing to the epidemic.
WHO HAS WON THE MOST EPSOM DERBY?
The Epsom Derby has been running since 1780, when Diomed, ridden by Sam Arnull, won.
Except for 1915-1918 and 1940-1945, the race has always been staged in Epsom. With Newmarket standing in for the wartime races.
The late Lester Piggott holds the record for most victories with nine.
Piggott won his first race riding Never Say Die in 1954. His last 29 years later on Tennoso in 1983.
Shergar won the race by the greatest margin in its history in 1981. He died two years later in 1983.
No horse has ever won the event more than once since it is only available to three-year-old colts and fillies.
