On Day 1 of the Hero FIH Hockey5s Lausanne 2022, ten teams stepped to the field in the Olympic Capital of Lausanne, officially kicking off the Hockey5s era. The day began with a bang, as the Swiss women’s team won 3-1 against Poland in the final seconds after conceding an early goal.

2022 FIH Hockey 5s Tournament History, New Format, And Participating Teams
The Hero FIH Hockey5s Lausanne 2022 event is the International Ice Hockey Federation’s first official senior World Hockey5s competition, and it builds on the success of previous Hockey5s events across the world, including the Youth Olympic Games events in Nanjing 2014 and Buenos Aires 2018.
The women’s teams from India, South Africa, Uruguay, Poland, and Switzerland are competing in a round robin tournament, with the top two teams advancing to the final.

The competition offered some terrific fast and skilled hockey play for the audience. Hockey5s is a faster-paced and more frenzied version of the game. A game is divided into two 10-minute halves, with the ball in play for 90 percent of the time thanks to perimeter boards.
Players were permitted to shoot from anywhere in the attacking half, which resulted in a plethora of goals. This tournament, as well as the growing number of Hockey5s tournaments around the world, is generating excitement among players and coaches.

In their first two matches of the FIH Hockey 5s Lausanne 2022 here on Saturday, the Indian women’s hockey team lost 1-3 against Uruguay and again lost 1-3 against Poland.
In India’s first match of the day against Uruguay, Kujur Ajmina (1st and 7th minutes) scored a brace, while Phalke Vaishnavi Vithal (18th) scored the other goal. Viana Teresa (2nd, 10th, and 19th) scored three goals for Uruguay, with Vilar Manuela (6th) scoring the other. Following that, the Indian squad, led by Etimarpu Rajani, was defeated 1-3 by Poland. India’s lone goal came from Rashmita Minz (6th).
With the top two teams in each of the men’s and women’s categories advancing directly to the finals tomorrow, every point and goal is crucial for all teams. In the Women’s competition, Uruguay is in first place with two victories out of two games, including a 4-0 triumph against hosts Switzerland in their second match. Switzerland is in second place with two wins out of three games, defeating South Africa and Poland before falling to Uruguay late in the day. South Africa is in third place following a win in the final game of the day against Poland, who are in fourth place ahead of India, who are without a point after two defeats in two games.
