On Saturday night, singer Edava Basheer, who helped popularize the song “Ganamela” in Kerala, died after collapsing during a live music concert. He was 78 years old at the time of his death.
He was brought to the hospital after collapsing on stage, according to sources, but his life could not be saved. At 9:30 p.m., the event occurred in Pathirappaly, in the Kollam district.

Who Was Edava Basheer?
Edava Basheer was a Malayalam cinema singer and choir organizer who brought new instruments like the accordion to choirs for the first time. He was a Hindu by religion while his net worth stood at $2 million.
He was born in a small village in Kerala’s Thiruvananthapuram district. His father’s name is Adul Azeez and his mother’s name is Fathimakunji.
He attended Christuraj High School in Kollam for his education. He continued to learn classical music with Kodampally Gopal Pillai, Ratnakaran Bhagavathar, and Vechoor Harihara Subramaniam after that. He earned his Ganabooshanam, a music academic degree, from the ‘Swathi Thirunal Music Academy.’
All Kerala Musicians & Technicians Welfare Association elected him as its State President.
He was married twice. Laila is the name of his first wife, while Rasheeda is the name of his second wife. Bhima, Ullas, Ushass, Sweeta, and Unmesh are the names of his five children. He and his family were living in ‘Sangeethalaya’ at the time of his death.
His Career
In the Malayalam film business, he made his debut as a playback singer in the movie ‘Raghu Vamsham.’ ‘Azhithira Malakal Azhalinte Malakal,’ which he sang with Vani Jayaram for the film ‘Mukkuvane Snehicha Bootham,’ is one of his most popular songs.
He sang a few songs for movies, but he was most known for his stage appearances, during which he also debuted various new musical instruments. He also founded the Sangeethalaya music troupe, which featured numerous foreign musical instruments.
Death Cause Of Edava Basheer
He was playing at the Blue Diamond Orchestra’s golden jubilee festivities, and the singer was singing KJ Yesudas’ iconic Hindi song ‘Maane Ho Tum’ when he suddenly felt chest discomfort, fainting on the stage in front of the live audience. However, his actual death cause is still unknown.
At 3 p.m., his funeral took place at Kadappakada Juma Masjid Kabarishthan.
