Twitch Claims The Broadcast Of The Horrific Shooting In Buffalo Was Taken Down In Less Than Two Minutes
This isn’t the first time Twitch, which is owned by Amazon, has been used to broadcast a mass shooting. Thousands of people watched a Twitch live stream of a synagogue massacre in Germany before it was taken down in 2019.
New York Governor Kathy Hochul held a news conference on Saturday evening, condemning the gunman’s use of social media networks. Though she did not mention Twitch by name. She implied that all sites that allowed the suspect to propagate his racial hatred message were involved in his crime.
Details:
The flood of violent content on social media platforms has made it difficult for corporations to keep up. As a result, some may praise Twitch’s performance while others may condemn it.
Follow-up concerns concerning whether the suspect was still firing after the Livestream was interrupted were not immediately answered by the firm.
The attacker pulls up to a Tops Friendly Markets shop in Buffalo, New York, before starting a fire on customers. According to a section of the Twitch broadcast acquired by CNN.
The footage was shot from the point of view of the shooter as he drove into the Tops store parking lot. Before pulling up the front of the business. The gunman is visible in the rearview mirror wearing a helmet.
Customers can be seen going through the parking lot as the suspect approaches in the footage.
Buffalo Police Commissioner Joseph Gramaglia says the shooting was live-streamed at a press conference on Saturday evening.
Twitch acknowledged the shooting was aired and said the user “has been indefinitely removed from our service. We are taking all appropriate measures, including monitoring for any accounts rebroadcasting this footage,” according to a statement given to CNN.
