ATP Men’s clay event will begin with qualifying on April 30th, followed by the main draw on May 3rd. The final will be held on May 8th. The Mutua Madrid Open is part of the ATP 1000 series. The event was formerly held on blue courts for the first time in 2012, however, after being criticized, it was moved back to its customary red clay. While both Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic were defeated on blue clay, they guided the championship back to its normal court surface.
