Los Angeles Lakers were expected to do much more better than what ended up doing this season. Despite appearing to have a deal with the Sacramento Kings in place, the Lakers abruptly shifted their focus and acquired Russell Westbrook from the Washington Wizards, purportedly at the request of LeBron James and Anthony Davis, as reported by Lakers Nation.

Fans had a high expectation of Westbrook but it turned out to be one of the worst seasons for the two time MVP. Russell Westbrook was heavily blamed for his performance as well as the Lakers’ back to back loss initial days while Anthony Davis and LeBron James were sidelined following injuries. It was wanted that in absence of the most important players James and AD, Westbrook would contribute to the side that has won 17 NBA Championships.

Coach Frank Vogel was also fired after the regular season was over for the Lakers. Westbrook even revealed that he did not had a great relationship with then-coach Vogel and that he had no idea why the coach did not like him.

With all this situation and according to Eric Pincus of Bleacher Report, the Lakers’ front office ow blaming pressure from LeBron and Klutch Sports for pushing the Westbrook deal.

Westbrook’s contract, which is worth $47 million and takes up a lot of salary cap space, is exacerbating the situation by limiting the Lakers’ ability to improve the squad.

Since the season concluded, rumours of a Westbrook trade have circulated, and as James enters the final year of his contract, many are wondering whether he will sign his own extension with the franchise or play out his contract.
