The tournament will begin with a star-studded gala event, with Norway’s World Champion Magnus Carlsen attempting an unprecedented hat-trick of titles in his home city.

Meltwater Champions Chess Tour 2022 Leg 3 Oslo Esports Cup

The Meltwater Champions Chess Tour, also known as the Champions Chess Tour 2022, is a nine-month series of online chess tournaments in which some of the world’s best players fight for a US$1.6 million prize pool. The cruise will take place from February 19, 2022, through November 20, 2022.

The $1.6 million Meltwater Champions Chess Tour will conclude with the Oslo Esports Cup, the Meltwater Champions Chess Tour’s first totally in-person esports tournament. The tournament will take place from April 22 to April 28, and it will be the first Major of the season.

Players will compete in one four-game round every day for the next seven days, with the winner being the one with the highest points – and cash – overall. The season’s first Major, the third of nine Tour elite-level events, will take place from April 22 to 28.

The tournament will take place from April 22 through April 28, with play beginning at 12:00 ET each day (21:30 IST). The Oslo Esports Cup will be the first time the world’s largest and most prestigious online chess tour has held an entirely in-person event from a single venue, chess24.com’s dedicated broadcast studio. Fans will be able to watch Round 6 matches starting at 18:00 CEST on April 27th.

Meltwater Champions Chess Tour Leg 3 Day 5 Results, Score, Events, and Schedule

Youngster Pragg came back strong after his loss against Carlsen and won against Eric Hansen with a score of 2.5-0.5. Meanwhile, Magnus Carlsen suffered a shocking loss against Foreest. The other two Round 5 matches went to tiebreaks, with Shakrhiyar Mamedyarov coming back to win Anish Giri. Jan-Krzysztof Duda, who turns 24 today, had his birthday ruined by Liem Quang Le of Vietnam, who won both blitz games in the tiebreaker.

After day five, GM Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa is once again the Oslo Esports Cup’s single leader. GM Magnus Carlsen is next with nine points, followed by GMs Jan-Krzysztof Duda, Le Quang Liem, and Jorden van Foreest with eight points each. GMs Anish Giri and Shakhriyar Mamedyarov are tied for second place in the rankings with six points each, while GM Eric Hansen is in last place with three points.

Meltwater Champions Chess Tour Leg 3 Prize Money Pool Distribution

The Oslo Esports Cup will have a total prize pool of $210,000, with $7,500 going to the victor of each four-match round. If the match proceeds to a tie-breaker, the winner will be awarded $5000, while the loser will be awarded $2000.

Pragg has already won $10,000 in two tournaments at the age of sixteen. The teenager, though, has an opportunity to considerably enhance his prize pool by earning up to $7,500 for each round played in the Major.
