On the field, the Dodgers prevailed 6-1 courtesy of Julio Urias’ five excellent innings and his trademark sweeping breaking ball/slider/slurve. Other slurves were being tossed off the field.

What Happened Actually?

The Dodgers and Padres are embroiled in a major MLB rivalry.

The long-standing rivalry between the two fan bases has been amplified with the up-and-coming Padres and the crème of the crop, the Dodgers. And in previous years, when the two teams have faced off, this has resulted in several brawls.

We knew we’d have some action in the stands when the Dodgers headed to San Diego to face the Padres this weekend. And it was, indeed, delivered.

A major brawl broke out in the stands during the opening game of the series on Friday night, with a few different supporters from each fan base joining in on throwing haymakers.

This was about as ordinary as Dodgers-Padres fan brawls get. There isn’t any blood. Nobody is going to be shanked. There are no wives in the fray. It was a really simple one.

Needless to say, this was nothing compared to what a Toronto Maple Leaf fan did last weekend. When he changed a man’s face during a crazy regular season hockey game.

We’ve observed a big increase in brawls at stadiums across all sports since supporters were allowed back into the stands following the COVID lockdown. However, it appears that some of the biggest ones take place at baseball stadiums.

But it’s baseball season in April. Fans of the Dodgers and Padres are just getting started. The first pitch is scheduled at 4:10 p.m. ET this afternoon between the two clubs. The combination of day baseball and day drinking might be a formula for disaster.
