Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa, a teen sensation, is leading the Oslo Esports Cup after a surprise victory over world number ten Shakrhiyar Mamedyarov. The 16-year-old from Chennai swept away the oldest player in the competition, winning the Round 2 match 2.5 to 0.5. It came on the heels of Pragg’s spectacular Round 1 match triumph over Jorden van Foreest. After this result, he is in the lead as the only player with all six tournament points.

Magnus Carlsen, the World Champion, was far from his best in a 2.5-1.5 loss to Airthings Masters finalist Liem Quang Le. The match between Jan-Krzysztof Duda and Anish Giri was the last to finish, and it was the first of the tournament to go to tiebreaks after finishing 2-2 after four close draws. Duda eventually forced the match win by winning both blitz games for a split 2-point victory, with Giri rescuing one point.
