Świątek qualified for the 2022 Australian Open as the seventh seed. She overcame Kaia Kanepi in the quarterfinals in a match that ended up being the longest of her career at three hours and one minute, before falling in the semifinals the next day to Danielle Collins.
She defeated fourth-seeded Anett Kontaveit in the final of the Qatar Total Open, losing only two games to win her second WTA 1000 title. She won her seventh title at Indian Wells by defeating 6th seed Maria Sakkari in straight sets. With back-to-back Masters victories, Świątek climbed to world No. 2 for the first time in her career.
Świątek claimed the world No. 1 singles position with her second-round victory over Viktorija Golubic on March 23, following the retirement of defending world No. 1 Ashleigh Barty. She defeated Naomi Osaka in the final, becoming the fourth and youngest woman to complete the Sunshine Double (11th overall), as well as the first woman to win the first three WTA 1000 titles of the year.
