After referee Michael Oliver blew his whistle to mark a minute of reflection in commemoration of the 97 Liverpool fans who died in a 1989 FA Cup semifinal against Nottingham Forest, a small group of City fans could be heard singing.

Manchester City has apologized for breaking the quiet for the Hillsborough victims

The noise elicited boos from the Liverpool end, and a City spokeswoman stated: “Manchester City are extremely unhappy with the behavior of certain City supporters during the minute’s silence before today’s game.”

“All individuals associated with Liverpool Football Club are genuinely apologized to by the club.”

As a result of what transpired, Oliver shortened the tribute short.

Pep Guardiola, City’s manager, stated after the game: “This isn’t the Manchester City of old. We have a deep relationship with Liverpool Football Club because of a tragedy that occurred many years ago. We’re right there with them… [The booing] don’t reflect who we are.”

“We never thought this was Man City. It was some people who didn’t understand the situation and that’s not nice. It felt really wrong at that moment but that had nothing to do with City and of course we accept that.” Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp said.

Liverpool triumphed 3-2 to reach their first FA Cup final since 2012. While City won the trophy for the first time in 2019. Liverpool will now take on Chelsea in the final who defeated Crystal Palace 2-0.

Fans at Wembley have made the city sad:

The city’s apology has been accepted, according to Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp, and the situation has been put to rest.

“Of course, that’s not pleasant, that’s apparent,” he told ITV. But I heard Manchester City issued a statement, and we’re good with that.”
